Use
a credit card, not a debit card, when shopping online.
Your credit-card company should be able to help if you
are defrauded.
Get
a new credit card to use exclusively for online shopping.
This will protect all your other cards and make checking
your online shopping statements easier.
For ease of memory, many people still use words as passwords.
You can make this approach slightly more secure by adding
numbers before and/or after the word: eg, graeme666.
Remember
to switch off the Num Lock (small green light in the little
panel at the top right of your keyboard not illuminated) before
you use this feature.
When browsing a
Website, you can save your wrist from mouse-induced RSI by
using the set of arrows in the accountants’ keypad to
the far right of your keyboard.
To
Go Down A Page: use the Down-Pointing Arrow on the
number “2” key. To Go Up a Page: use the Up-Pointing Arrow
on the number “8” key. To Go Back To A Previously Viewed Page: hold
down the ALT key and use the Left-Pointing Arrow on the number
“4” key. To Go Forward To A Previously Viewed Page:
hold down the ALT key and use the Right-Pointing Arrow on
the number “6” key.
To
open quickly any of the Drop-Down Menus listed along the top
of your browser’s screen, simply hold down ALT and hit
the underlined letter of your selection. For example, to open
the File Menu, hold down ALT and hit F. To make the Menu go
away, simply hit ALT.
You can use this
quick-key approach to open the Drop-Down Menus in your word-processing
packages, too.
